Equipment List (prices in USD)
Wooden Gymnastics Rings: $30-40 (10/10)
Resistance Bands: $10-20 each (10/10)
Squat Rack: $100, (10/10 — when combined with weight plates and barbell)
Barbell: $120 (9/10)
Weight Plates, 215kg: $330 (8/10)
Front Lever Bar: $150, (2-3/10 —unless you’re specialized in calisthenics)
Flat bench: $130 (3/10 — adjustable incline bench would be 4/10)
Parallettes: $35 (6-7/10, but worth the low cost)
Adjustable Dumbbell: $375 for pair, but could be as low as $100 (8/10, but buy manually adjusted iron plates instead of brand name)
Soft Plyo Box: $100-200 for single (8/10, but a bit expensive for what it is)
Weight Belt: $10-30 (9/10 — could just use a rope if weight isn’t too heavy)
Powdered Chalk: 10/10 — inexpensive, versatile, and a little goes a long way
Weightlifting Straps: $15 (7/10)
Jump Rope: $10 (5/10)
Stationary Bike: $500 (2/10 — a real bicycle is a better investment, unless you live somewhere not conducive to walking, running, or riding; you can also jump rope or do other forms of cardio)
If I were going to set up an ideal minimalist home gym, here’s what I would include from the above:
Rings
Squat rack
Iron weight plates (with handles)
Barbell
Resistance Bands (3 different thicknesses, 2 of each)
Weight Belt, straps, powdered chalk
30” Soft plyo box
1 stable table (knee height)
Incline Bench
Feel free to share your thoughts or questions in the comments. Would also be cool to hear if some of you have found other pieces of equipment to be exceptionally versatile.
